12S (BIRTH CERTIFICATE)

The secured birth certificate, called “12S”, is issued once in a lifetime, on the basis of the Civil Status Register, on a special and secured paper. This document is compulsory for the issuance of the biometric passport.

How can I get my 12S?

  • If you are born in Algeria, you can obtain it from the Τown Hall of your place of birth, in person or by proxy.
  • If you are registered at our consular department in Greece but born in another country you have to request your 12S certificate in person from the authorities of your birthplace or submit a written application at the Diplomatic Representation covering your birthplace.
  • If you are resident in Greece you can request it online at the website: http://demande12s.interieur.gov.dz

Your 12S certificate will be issued and sent to our Embassy. You can follow the progress of your request by clicking “Suivi de la demande”, on the website's home page.

The requested information for an online application is:

  • Name (for married women: maiden and married name)
  • Surname
  • Date and place of birth
  • Birth certificate number indicated on the certificate or the family record booklet
  • Consular registration number (if minor, registration number of the father or mother).

IMPORTANT:  The 12S certificates are issued in the Arabic language. In order to avoid errors in names and surnames, it is recommended to attach on the 12S request birth certificates of parents/spouses in Arabic.
