DEATH – TRANSFER OF CORPSE
An Algerian citizen’s death transcription in the Registry of the Embassy is only made when the death has occurred on Greek or Albanian territory (covered countries).
Documents required:
- Registration card
- Original Algerian birth certificate
- Official translation of death certificate from the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs in both Arabic and French languages
- Family Record Booklet.
Note: In case the deceased is not registered at the Embassy (passing by, of illegal entry in Greece or other special cases), the procedure and documents requested are the same save that a relative of the deceased person will need to provide their help so as to proceed to the identification of the corpse.
The Embassy of Algeria in Athens issues the death certificate and the authorization for the repatriation of the mortal remains, on the basis of the documents delivered by the authorities of the country of residence.
Documents required:
- Original death certificate with its' official translation
- Burial permit
- Embalming certificate issued by the funeral services
- Medical Certificate for sanitary conformity named "non épidémiologie" (to be issued by the hospital or the doctor who determined the death)
- A transfer authorization document issued by local authorities.
Note: The family of the deceased has to provide the Embassy with a birth certificate and a copy of the family record booklet so that the Consular Services may proceed to the entry of the death into the register and the issuance of the death certificate. A copy of the death certificate will be attached in the File accompanying the remains of the deceased when transferred. The identity documents of the deceased need to be included therein as well.
